This fall we’ve added several new unheated classes to our schedule. Yin, Yoga for Balance and Posture, Candlelit Restorative and Sound Bath, VinYin, and our new signature class, Soul Flow make up our five unheated class styles. Also try our Beginner Clinic every 3rd Saturday of the month.

Let’s introduce you to our unheated classes.

Balance + Posture

What is Balance + Posture?

Did you know that we start losing our balance around age 30? Mindfully and consistently practicing balance exercises can improve balance and decrease the risk of falls and injury especially as we age.

Additionally, in today’s age of seating, commuting, and hand-held phones, our posture suffers more than ever before. The muscles along the front of our body shorten, and the muscles along the back of our body lengthen to put us out of balance and often in pain.

This one-hour, unheated class specifically focuses on balancing and spine-strengthening poses to help you stand taller and be more confident in functional movement on and off the mat. Class size is limited to allow space for students to practice balancing postures against the wall.

Who Should Practice Balance + Posture?

Anyone will benefit from this beginner-level class. However, it is specifically targeted to our over-40 yogis who want to improve their balance and posture.

Benefits of Balance + Posture

  • Improved balance and posture

  • Increased range of motion

  • Decreased stress

  • Improved bone density

  • Reduced risk of falling

  • Reduced back pain

Yin

What is Yin?

Yin Yoga is a cooler, slow-paced class designed to target deep connective tissues like your fascia, ligaments, joints and bones. Consisting of mostly floor postures, Yin holds poses for 3-5 minutes. Alignment is less important than sensation and you should feel the stretch at around a level 3 on a scale of 1-10.

A vital compliment to traditional Yang-style yoga and workouts, Yin provides the balance your body needs to feel its best.

Who Should Practice Yin?

Everyone! Especially in this day and age when everything we do is rushed, busy, and over-scheduled, and the “no-pain, no-gain” mentality rules, we need to give some love to our connective tissues to balance all the stress traditional Yang-style exercise including Yang-style yoga, puts on our joints, bones, and ligaments.

Benefits of Yin Yoga

  • Improves flexibility

  • Stretches connective tissue

  • Boosts circulation

  • Improves sleep

  • Enhances mental focus

  • Promotes relaxation

  • Develops breath awareness

  • Balances emotions
